Our History

Southern Oregon’s Upper Rogue region, including Eagle Point, has a deep history rooted in Native American heritage. The Takelma people originally inhabited the area, relying on the Rogue River for food and spiritual connection. In the 1850s, conflict during the Rogue River Wars led to their forced removal as settlers arrived seeking farmland and gold.

Eagle Point developed in the late 19th century with agriculture and milling as economic drivers. The construction of the Eagle Point Covered Bridge and Butte Creek Mill marked its early growth. Surrounding communities like Shady Cove and Prospect thrived on logging, fishing, and tourism, especially with the establishment of Crater Lake National Park and the Wild and Scenic designation of the Rogue River.

Today, Eagle Point and the Upper Rogue blend historical preservation with outdoor recreation, drawing residents and visitors to its scenic beauty, cultural landmarks, and small-town charm rooted in rich Southern Oregon history.
